Naturopathy is a set of treatment methods, alternative to the ones practiced in traditional medicine and based on the postulate of inherent ability of man for self-healing.
The main difference of naturopatihc medicine from the official one consists in the way how health issues are considered. Conventional medicine implies treating the disease, not the patient; therefore, its mission is extremely narrow-focused. Thus, traditional medicine doesn’t consider the body as an integrated system that has a huge internal capacity to maintain health. The position of naturopathy is fundamentally different: it claims that solving all the health problems can be solved in a natural way.
According to botany specialists, our planet is a home to several hundred thousand species of plants, only a few tens of thousands of which have been studied and described by scientists, herbology experts and ethnoscience adherents. The archaeologists claim that over the life of humanity, people have massively used plants for food, clothing manufacturing , treatment of diseases and cosmetics production.
Treatment and prevention of diseases using medicinal plants and natural products is a gigantic industry finding itself on the crest of a wave and estimated at about 90 billion dollars. It is believed that at least half of all diseases can be successfully treated by means of plant origin, and herbal remedies are prescribed in treatment of a broad variety of health issues of various nature. The treatment is achieved due to glycosides, essential oils, alkaloids and tannins that herbs contain; having a pronounced impact on the human body, herbal remedies may be designed for ingestion and external application.
Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine where treatment is based on the two essential principles. The first one implies that a disease can be cured using the medications that produce effects resembling the disease itself (similia similibus curantur). Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, believed that an overdose of certain drugs leads to symptoms of the same disease being treated, therefore he laid the foundation of homeopathy basing on the law of similars.
Despite the widely spread myth, depression is not a disease, but a symptom in an overwhelming majority of cases; the symptom that is ultimately caused by the problem with the neurotransmitters. In turn, the neurotransmitters issue is also caused by something, something that has to be identified. There is a specific list of issues needed to be reconsidered in depression treatment, and since this list is not infinite, the 99% of non-major depression cases can be treated with no medicaments.
Homeopathic remedies have proved their unsurpassed effectiveness in treatment of numerous diseases; otherwise it wouldn’t have survived a day in the rigid medicine realm. The interest in alternative medicine is partially conditioned by a permanently growing number of patients suffering from side effects caused by synthetic drugs. Not many know that during 2006, the worldwide sales of homeopathic medicines have increased by 40%, which is twice as high as conventional drugs (allopathic) medicine in terms of growth.
